Hood Aligning
« on: July 29, 2021, 11:37:07 am »
Hey guys, I've got a 1974 k10 and I'm trying to align my hood and I'm having problems. They are brand new hinges and a brand new hood and I drilled out the hinges to get as much adjustment room as possible, but it is still sticking up all around. Is there any way to lower the hood any more? the front of the hood can't go any farther down either, it's touching the radiator support which makes me think it's the fenders somehow. Also new fenders. If I push down on one side I can align it but it just pushes the other side back up. Thanks.

China metal hood? Sadly yes, frail little hood but it isn't bent as far as I can tell, I'm OCD so I've checked it a million times. Same with the fenders.

Take the hinges off and have someone help you lay the hood in place to see if it will actually fit correctly first. I've found that the inner structure is often causing fitment issues with the aftermarket stuff. Which hood did you buy? A lot of the aftermarket hinges are garbage as well and will allow the hood to spring up just as bad or worse than worn out originals.

That's a good idea, I will try that next time a buddy is over, probably monday or tuesday. I just loosened both hinges and after pushing it down it sticks up about 1/4 to a half an inch up on the passenger and sits about 1/4 to a half an inch up on the driver side but only towards the front of the hood. I hammered in some of the inner structure as well because it had been stopping the hood from going down but some more may be needed. The hood is from one of those online parts places who just sells all kinds of parts and the hinges and springs are from a place who specializes in old chevy stuff.
