You are probably way over thinking this. Start with the basics.

Did the truck just stop running one day? It's not the carburetors fault if it's backfiring through the intake.

As suggested check for spark, do you have bright blue spark? Are all of your ignition components in good shape? Did you make sure the distributor cap isn't burned or cracked? Check all of your ignition components. Check the resistance of your wires, no more than 3k ohms per foot. Check your plugs.

If all of that stuff looks good and the firing order is correct, do a compression test.

I have spark, it looks to be a weak spark, orangish. Not a fat blue spark. I'm guessing the coil is weak and needs to be replaced. If its not my q-jet(which I'm starting to believe it wasn't the problem), I planned on getting rid of that thing anywase. It would need a major rebuild(throttle shafts causing vacume leaks, ect....) I got a new Holley on the way. Those guys on hotrodders.com are kinda a**holes, and they won't answer my simple questions, they just start throwing all these suggestions at me first. So, DOES ANYONE KNOW IF A COIL GOES BAD INSTANTLY OR DO THEY GET WEAK??????????????? thanks, Mark

I just got my question answered today by a guy on hotrodders. He said coils can become weak, and cause a low voltage spark. Also, he said the module can play a role in this too. So, I'm going to replace these two Thursday. I'll let you all know if it runs. thanks,

That is correct, it will slowly loose spark and then go out.  If you have a spare, I would swap the coil first to see if that is the answer.  Or replacing both is good insurance.

awsome, thankyou roundedline. I have to say, I like this site much better than hottrodders. This site has some nice, respectful people on here, not saying everyone on hotrodders.com are A-holes. I've never had problems on this site. Thankyou all, I'll let you all know if she runs.

my motor has been running good for awhile now. It was the coil the whole time. thankyou all.
