Polishing truck's metal (non-aluminum)

The chrome bumpers and cargo light..
The stainless drip-rails..
The stainless grill molding..

Were they ever coated or treated in some way from the factory, or just plain metal? If the later, I could just use Flitz or Barkeeper's Friend I suppose.
