Need Engine VIN Help

Hello Everyone,

I have a 1986 Chevy K10/350.  Pulled out the engine to rebuild or replace.  I need some help decoding the engine.  Here is the info and what I was able to dig up.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cast #4088548 =  Small Block V8 1986-1988 350, 2 bolt
ID: V0714 URM = flint/july/14th. URM = ?
VIN:  CGJ184093
         CGJ=??
         184093 = Match the last digits of the Truck Vin tag

Thanks for the help.  Looks like an original engine.

Anyone have any advice on which way to go?  I don't want an LS swap.  I'm being advised to upgrade to a 96-99 Vortec, which would bolt on but would need an intake manifold, Carb, Dist, and electric fuel pump.  With a warranty, I can get a long block from Oreillys for ~$2600.  This is unchartered waters for me due to never having to rebuild or change out an engine.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is nothing wrong with going with a SBC, especially if you plan to make it like it is currently.  With that said, when searching make sure that what you are buying has the mechanical fuel pump provision as most have moved away from this using late vortech blocks.

Just run a tbi tank pump and sender and use a fuel pressure regulator instead of trying to retrofit a mechanical fuel pump.
