Engine Year Identification Question
«

First timer here so hello all. Just got my first 83 GMC have been running fords for a long time and always wanted one of these... Detail first. 83 GMC K-10 6" lift turbo 350 35" tires 350 engine. Not sure what my axles are yet or my transfer case. Now to my question. It has had a later model serpentine belt engine swapped into it. I am trying to id the engine year. It looks like they put the Q-Jet back on it and the original manifold. Quite a project overall but it does run and drive. They put a manual shift kit in the tranny and I am thinking of swapping it back out to a 700r4 or possibly a well built th400. Anyway looks to be a great site looking forward to conversing with you guys/gals. Thanks in advance for the response.

The serpentine swap is an excellent question. I was told when I bought it that the engine had been swapped with a newer model but thus far the previous owner has proved highly unreliable as a source so it is kinda ground zero for everything. The truck is a bit of an unsolved mystery at the moment. It had the front saddle change done to the quad headlight later model suburban front end and they painted everything black in the engine compartment so I don't have a vacuum diagram or at least one I would deem reliable. And there is scores of alternate wiring but they didn't seem to change the original much or chop it just random wiring to switches and such that don't go anywhere. The Quad headlight wiring wasn't completed so if I try to hit the hi beams the lights go very dim and I can hear wires grounding somewhere under the dash as well as the left side high beam wires aren't present/connected. Anyway enough venting I have another question about the brakes that I will post in the proper area thanks for the help so far and if there is a way to eyeball the current engine without having to find the id or at least to tell if it is more era correct I would appreciate the info. Otherwise Thanks for the help so far. Oh and if I can find a way to post a pic up here I will do so asap.

mortec.com for the engine info and where to look on the engine.
autozone.com for the wiring diagrams, sounds like your going to needing them.
