dash board question
« on: March 25, 2006, 10:25:00 pm »
I want to replace my dash pad on my 84 gmc 2500 with a dash from a 73-80 truck. Is it just a unbolt and rebolt or is there more to it. Thanks

It's just a bolt on procedure, shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes.  There are something like 6-8 bolts (can't remember) and it's a breeze.  Good luck

I've rounded off the 2 top corners of the bezel and had it fit OK.Could hardly notice.

You want the 79-80 version since it has the hole for the VIN in it.

I did the swap today. I put a 79 dash pad in my 84 and I did run into a few problems and here they are.

The speakers on the ends of the 84 dash would not allow the 79 dash to fit flush so they had to be removed.

The way the a/c vents went into the dash is different between the two years. I had to use a dremel to cut a lot of the 79 vent off. Both vents.

The gauge bezels are way different. I had to go to the junkyard and I got one off of a 77. Then I had to move the headlight switch on the dash down an inch to match where the hole was on the 77 bezel. Now there is a hole for the wiper switch on the dash bezel from the 77 because the wiper switch is on the turn signal stalk on the 84.

But now that it is in I love the look. Thanks
