New Guy w/ Questions -- 74 C30 Crew Cab Dually
« on: December 20, 2006, 08:17:00 am »
Hey guys..... I'm new to the world of 73-87 trucks and just picked up a solid C30.  I've got a few questions, as I'm definetly new to this year and bodystyle and was hoping for some help.

1) I went to order drop spindles for the truck and they only list 75 and up.  Belltech said there was a brake change in 75 leaving 74 and 73 as the oddball years.  Any ideas on what was different?  Calipers, rotors?  Is it an easy swap?

2) My blower fan only works on hi.  Is there a reostat in the blower box that needs replacing or should I start my search elsewhere?

3) Fuel gauge is pegged full on either tank.  Do I start looking at the gauge or bad sender harness?

4) Has anyone swaped the 70's front ends for a later front clip... mid 80s or so?  I know there are cowl panel and hood  discrepencies, but are there ways around them?

5)Last but not least for now.... I see   truck makes about every part imaginable for this truck.  My two questions are.  How is the fit and finish of interior pieces such as dash pads, etc?  OEM?  2nd..... how is the fitment of say a complete new door?  Is it a mess or something tha can be worked with? For the money I think it'd be silly not to replace all doors, rockers, etc.... that way I know what I'm working with.

You can put those spindles on just make sure you are using the correct rotors for your spindles.

Yes check the resistor assembly

Start at the tank and unplug the wire, then ground it and see if the gauge moves. From there check the resistance of the sender 0-90 ohms and check for high resistance in the wire to the gauge.

You can swap the 73-80 nose to an 81-87 but it's a bit of work.

sells a lot of stuff that is made in china and fits like a square in a round hole. Trim pieces dash pads etc are absolute crap. As far as aftermarket doors and fenders, they are never perfect and require some time and effort to get them looking good.

Welcome New Guy. The gas gauge problem might be in the wiring at the switch, I'm assuming that your truck is a 454, if it is original, your tank switch should be a push/pull cable assy and the electric switching is a part of the cable assy.
Replacement doors require a lot of work to fit correctly. In  , the front doors are grouped 73-76 and 77-87. The rear side doors are grouped 73-87.  If you decide to replace the rear side doors, your existing inside door panels won't fit and you will have to use 77-87 door panels.  I've run into this with my crewcab and have notified   of the difference of the rear doors a couple of years ago, yet they haven't changed the book listing.

Welcome from New Hampshire.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
