GM repair manual
« on: December 29, 2006, 05:23:00 pm »
Are the GM truck repair manual available and where can I obtain one? The Haynes and Chilton's are too vague and are for early through late models.

Yes they are available and I would say eBay is your best bet. Is there any specific year or information you need? I have a few factory services manuals I could part with and have plenty of information if you need something in particular.

Do these factory manuals include assembly and parts breakdown? I would be interested in a 85 or 87 1/2 ton pickup manual. Let me know. jeffgarner66@yahoo.com

Nothing is better than the factory service manual. It breaks down a lot of information but there is still many things that are not in them. Most factory service manuals are for trained technicians who know their way around a vehicle and are intended for them. They aren't really a step by step guide for the do it yourselfer. Nevertheless lots of good information in there. Here's one for a good price

Vile, Thanks for the info and link. I found an 87 manual for $64.95. Is that a fair price? Jeff

Brand new factory Chevrolet manuals are available from Helms... Click HERE.  They're not cheap, though. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you can grab one at a substantial discount from eBay or Half.com.

Luck!

I believe Yearone has them as well. Also try Chevy Duty's website.

The Helm Inc GM factory manuals are $75-90 new for a set if they are in print for your truck.
The complete sets have the Overhaul Service and Wiring manuals.

Maybe I'm just cheap but $65 is a bit pricey for one piece of a set that only costs $75 new.

I agree, expensive, but I'll pay $10 more for a clean new manual.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to where is a good source for service manuals?

i can't find any 83 manuals on ebay, helms doesn't carry it for 83, and while classic has it in stock, i can't seem to be able to buy it online----the page where you register your info keeps getting stuck.

OK, nevermind---it worked;  Maybe my computer was/is messed up.

Anyways, it probably would be good to discuss where else to find manuals.

$109.95 was the damage done, but i need it---bad.

I bought mine from classic parts.  They have all of them from about 1955 to 1995.

Here's a link to a listing of them.

http://www.classicparts.com/searchprods.asp?searchstring=shop+manual&pagenumber=3&val=0

It has pictures and exploded views, plus all accessories like cruise are in there and it has a great fold out wiring diagram set in the back.
