Hello everyone, I have a couple of questions. I have a 1978 chevy truck I have been working on for a while. I have rebuilt the motor. Put a shift kit in the tranny.I also have redid the interior. Now on to my questions.  I know most trucks have problems with the hood closing all the way. I have put on another hood from the salvage yard. I oiled the hinges real good but it still wont close properly(sticking up above the fenders)What is the best way to correct this? And question number 2 what do I need to do to get a more comfortable ride? I replaced the shocks but it still rides rough. Any tips will be appreciated.

Is it 2 or 4wd? You'll need to give more details on your tough ride. As far as the hood sticking up goes, the best fix is a new set of hinges, also you can elongate the holes in the hinges to gain more adjustment but the hinges get very sloppy and you'll have to press down on the corners because the hood will want to pop up near the cowl.

It is a 2wd. I feel every bump in the road and a lot of bouncing around, I guess it is expected but I wanted a little smoother ride. As far as the hood goes that is exactly whats happening. Its popping up near the cowl. So if you think a new set of springs will do it ill try it out. Where is the best place to purchase them?

If it is a real rough ride, you must have a 1-ton truck. A 1/2 ton truck rides smoother.   Take a few springs out of it if you have no need for the extra capacity hauling.

Not springs, hinges. Do a dry park check of the front steering and suspension. Have someone turn the wheel back and fourth while you observe and look for any unwanted movement. Jack it up under the control arm and check the ball joints and wheel bearings. Check the shock absorbers too.

Yes, I dont know why I said springs. I meant hinges. Today I pulled of the springs and the hood sits down now. What happens? Does the old hinges wear out allowing the springs to have too much play therefore allowing the hood to sit up. Anyway I will get the new hinges. I dont mind getting them as long as its the problem, just dont want to get brand new ones and have the same problem. Ill try the dry park check. I know the shock absorbers are the cheapest you can get. Any brand you reccomend?

On the hood, When you are trying to adjust it leave the bolts loose. When you put the hood down try to push down on the corners and see if it is possible for your hood to shut all the way with the bolts loose. If it is then you just need to snug them up to where you can still move the hood but they won't move when you put it back up.

try loosenign up the front hinge bolts to the fenders and sinking the front of the hinges downwards a big, to sink the hood lower a bit

if that doesnt do it then sink the rear of the hinges down the same way

hinge position is adjutable, gotta work the bolts to adjut anything no matter what it is, fender, door, etc
