Funny, people where I live used to believe I was an overrated machanic.  Now, anything that I  have worked on brings big bucks at the local auctions.  Simple advice, if you're just starting out, build the toughest thing you can.

I have a truck built by Jason Hill.  I know what kind of work he does.

I have a black 81 silverado he did.  My wife wrecked it, he bought and fixed it up and gave my wife the option of buying it.

i've grown up around jason dude and his work is NOT overrated... a "fix-up" is just that a fix up.... a BUILT TRUCK will cost you some real money and he can build a BAD truck.... plain an simple you get in what you put out... and for a well built truck done right... he's tha man

I now he can do nice work but most of the nice trucks he does are for high profile clients or he was originally building the truck for himself and ended up selling it to someone.  I know a few guys that have stopped using him and some that still use him.  It all depends on your experience.  We had bad experiences with him and prefer to not use him.  He has done nice work but the quality should be the same no matter what you pay.

That's a load of crap. If I were to build a truck for you within your budget you would get exactly that. You would get what you paid for with my expertise. If you wanted me to build you a truck top to bottom inside and out you would expect to sink a good $30k + into it. So if you bought something this guy slapped together at a budget price and are bashing his name then at least post pix and what you paid and state your case. Everyone wants something for nothing.

just like people with more money can afford a nicer house, people with more money can afford to get a nicer truck built.

I will try to get some pics.  I didn't expect it to be full blown show truck.  I am talking more about the body work, paint job and other minor things.

THANK YOU! this was my point exactly! i just was tryin to be nicer lol. strkr98 what we're sayin is... if his work was overrated he wouldn't be as well known as he is for the work he does. its not like he has this HUGE shop in the busy part of town he's in a midsized shop on a backroad of the edge of town. you say it like he's biast(spelling?) to people with lots of money or "important" people but like vile said it takes SERIOUS money to build ANY show truck... especially a squarebody, you get ALOT more w/ $30k than you do w/ $5k becaus of all the hours and work it takes for the build. lets face it... to build a sqaurebody into a PERFECT line matching smooth as glass show truck it takes ALOT of work. even BRAND new the body panels and gaps and all were nowhere near perfect alignment. i'm a young so i've been around jason's work for the better half of my life and i've seen his $30,40,50K jobs and his $3,4,5k jobs and YES there's a HUGE difference in the two, but to bash it for being a difference is like comparing like bashing a civic caus its nowhere near the car a corvette is..... point being... even his smaller jobs are better than most can turn out for the same money.... and so are his high end jobs.

The 81 is not the only truck I wasn't impressed with.  I had a tailgate shaved on a nbs truck by him that wasn't good.  You could still see the 5 screw holes and the outline of the handle when he finished.  I knew people that had theirs done somewhere else that were completey smooth and couldn't even tell it had a tailgate cap before.  He also painted by handles and bumper and they didn't turn out good.  Like I said I just haven't had any luck using him.
