I'm 31 and a civil engineer.  I work for a road maintenance and construction company as a quality assurance engineer testing everything we produce.  There's only 2 of us to cover 5 asphalt plants, a quarry, and field operations in 3 states (MA, CT, & RI), so we have plenty to do.  When things get busy, I've even been pressed into service running asphalt plants, bucket loaders, and portable mixing trailers.  We serve all of New England, so the scenery is always changing.  This will be my 8th year with the company, and I must say they treat us pretty well.  I also have the best boss in the world, which makes life a whole lot easier.

I'm 29 years old and I am an IT Security Engineer. I've been working in IT since right out of high school... unfortunately that's all I know other than music. My love of music is actually what got me started in computers. Once I found out that I could plug my guitar into my computer, record 8 digital audio tracks (back then that was a lot), mix them down to 1, and burn my own CD right from my bedroom I was hooked. In terms of mechanics... I have a lot to learn. But so far I'm enjoying every minute of the journey.

Greetings,

29, IT/Web support from northern Illinois, now living in central Illinois. Ive got a beautiful wife and a demon 1.5 year old son.  Our current vehicles are her 04 Subaru forester and my 80 Datsun Z, which is impractical now.  I'll be picking up my 85 Chevy 3/4 ton Sunday(4/12), pics will be up that same day.  Plans are to run her as is till the engine or tranny cant keep up then sell the dana 60s out from under it and get a different toy.

Hi all. A more formal introduction. My name is Joe, 54, work for a local irrigation district and married to the greatest gal for 31 years. A son, daughter, 4 granddaughters, 1 grandson, and a '75 C10 with the Pro Street treatment. Happened upon her 8 years ago with a 377 and 100 shot of nitrous and everything almost as she sits now.  With a few personal touches, was content doing the car show scene and driving to cruise-ins, but mainly just my daily driver. Then, years of wisdom kicked in and thought to myself "why pay 15-30 dollars for some one to look at my ride for a stinkin' trophy or plaque!!" Can go to Walmart or Braums and attract more people for nothing. ;D Been wanting a blower since I was 18, so the since everything in life has fell into place, the wife and I had a cussin' and discussion session. I like to think I won since I sarted building a 383 with all the best of the best components in the short block.  Knowing this wouldn't be for the strip and horsepower would not be an issue, went with a roots blower instead of a twin screw or centrifugal. I mentioned my wife is the greatest gal earlier, here is why. While talking going the blown route, I had every catalog know to the subject and came across a setup with an enderle bugcatcher on top of a blower. Seeing as this cost 2x what the blower cost, you can imagine what kind of words looks I had to endure. Of course I didn't go down without a fight. In other words, I whined louder than any blower. Well, the blower came in and i told her we need to order the carbs next. She said " can you wait a month?" I was fixin' to have a temper tantrum a 2 year old would be proud of. Then she said "For the fuel injection!!" Since I didn't build the truck, I did build the engine and if someone asks who built it, I can say "Tina did!!!!"  Now, if I can only figure out how to get a Gear Vendor 8)

Hi there. I've wandered into this site many times googling images and today I finally decided to join. Some mighty nice lookin trucks in here! I'm John, 23 in Houston TX, here with my beautiful wife and our wonderful 8 month son Jacob. Growing up I always liked the squarebodies but I was never much of a gearhead or a mechanic or much inclinated towards vehicles of any kind until I started working as a machinist and now I can't get enough of it. I guess once you start spending hours working on parts it's only natural to wanna see what all your sweat was put towards! Right now all my sweat is being poured into my 1980 Custom Deluxe. I bought it back in December for $1,500 and am still waiting on the title to get back from the courthouse. Anyone had any experience with a bonded title? It aint a lot of fun.

Anyway, bonded title and all I still think I got a pretty good deal.  It's got some starting issues that I'm still playing with and nothin on the dash works except the left turn signal, but when she runs she runs good and there is very little rust to speak of, even if it's got the most pitiful paint on it I've ever seen. The motor is a 5.7L 350 that was pulled out of a later something cuz it's got centerbolt valve covers. Not sure if the trans came with the truck or the motor but it's a 3 speed auto. Edelbrock carb and I just put an Elite series air cleaner on it last weekend that I can't help but drool over. Even my wife admitted that it was pretty!

Mostly so far it's been just basic maintenance; oil change, plugs, new battery/cables, transmission fluid/filter/pan gasket, one radiator hose (still need to do the lower), and then I had to get 4 new tires after one dry-rotted all the way through, and that wasn't cheap. My big accomplishment right now is that I got the windshield wipers to work again on Monday! Someone forgot to ground a wire... I think performance parts are just gonna wait until I pull the motor completely for the rebuild. I'm pretty sure that if I took the valve covers off to replace them with chrome I'd wanna adjust the valves, and I'm sure that while adjusting the valves I'd decide they were dirty and wanna clean them, and if the valves are dirty what do the cyclinders look like... So right now I'm gonna be focusing on re-upholstering the interior which is pretty beat up by now.

Hope to have some pictures up soon! Nice to meet ya'll!

Just found this site and think its pretty awesome! My name is John and I live in a suburb of Denver, CO. I'm 38, never been married and don't have any kids. I've been a truckdriver for 15 years now with the last 3 of those as an instructor. Most of our clients are new hires in the oilfield industry and lately working with community colleges in and out of the state. It's not really a school but more like corporate training, that has slowed down a lot since there's not much drilling going on. The last 3 months I've been haulin freight but I think things are lookin up. I currently have a 77 Silverado and a 78 Scottsdale both are 4 wheel drive, but gotta get rid of the Silverado. I've always loved these trucks and doubt I'll ever own a newer truck. I also own a 04 Bonneville that I can't wait to get rid of so I can make room for a 70 Skylark or somethin like that. I've yet to get the 78 out on a trail but right now it needs a fuel pump :( I look forward to using the discussion boards, I think I could spend hours on here. A special thanks to those who make this site possible and all their hard work. You guys rock!
