New carb and manifold
« on: April 13, 2007, 09:21:19 pm »
I’ve got a stock 350 and my carb is dieing so I figured I would replace it and get myself a new manifold as well. What’s a good combo carb/manifold for good gas mileage and how much will it cost me. I could care less about my power and torque numbers. It’s my daily driver and my only concern is my gas mileage and reliability.

Edelbrock

Search around.  I put a 1403 qjet carb on my edelbrock performer 3701 intake (w/ egr hookup) on my 79 Big 10.  Works like a champ on my 383 stroker.  Once you decide, go to a place like PAW to order the parts.

Rebuild your Quadrajet, or get a replacement Q-jet if it's a job you don't want to handle. As far as an intake manifold if you aren't concerned with massive power gains and just want an aluminum dual plane intake I think I have one I could sell at a bargain price. Otherwise here's an economy choice that I've actually used http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-CHEVY-Dual-Plane-Aluminum-Intake-327-350-383-400_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ107063QQihZ012QQitemZ220099930162QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Where's a good place to purchase a replacement quadrajet? Most places I look only seem to have edlebrock and holly.

I still say get the PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) catalog....it is very large and very detailed. They have everything.

$250 from Autozone

My truck, according to the vin, is a big-10 and has (I believe) heavy duty suspension... does that matter? Just asking because it says that carb is for standard suspension.

Doesn't matter - they're all calibrated the same for replacement. OE they sometimes used different needle assembly and eventually all used a rollover check ball for the bowl vent. All reman'd come like that now anyway. Basically it should be bolt on. Do you have electric choke? Make sure you get an electric choke carb.
