Inspection Cover?
« on: May 06, 2007, 07:31:18 pm »
I am in the process of trying to buy a clean silverado shortbed 2wd. I found a very clean 87 in my area at a used car dealership. The truck is clean, as well as the undercarriage but I notice the flywheel is exposed. This has me concerned. I notice that 81-87 trucks I've seen, including a couple plow trucks at my job, have exposed flywheels as well. Did they come with a cover from the factory or were they actually exposed. If they did come with one from a factory, I wonder why they are off?

The cover for the flexplate/converter removed actually allows for better unheating of the converter. I see no reason for concern. If you want to put one on just buy one. You can even get a chrome one.

I removed mine.  I wouldn't worry about it.  If your are really worried, I have my cover I'll sell ya.  You can always go to a salvage yard and get one or do what Vile said, get a chrome one.
