it will free some power from the pulleys, but not over your peak amount. As it it will free about say 7hp, but that won't make your output go from 250 to 257hp. If that is what you are looking for.

I'm planning doing the exact same thing because i'm on a gas mileage kick. If you can give me a few weeks/months to get it done, i will let you know how it goes; I'm going to be recording MPG very accurately with the odometer. It may take me a few weeks to get it done because the trucks needs other things first.
Even though i have a clutch fan, i feel that switching over to electrics will give a slight increase----maybe .2%. But it all adds up.
Same thing with the ram air system---maybe .1 or .2% I think these things were designed to give full benefit only at full throttle. The main reason why i feel they will help a little in mileage is because the outside air is cooler then underhood----my duct work has fallen off and is non-existant. If you have your ductwork, then the benefits might be negligable.
Really, i think two of the most important things for, besides how you drive, are compression and exhaust. If you have a low restiction exhaust it really helps.

Convert to TBI and yes install electric cooling fans = best fuel economy - nice and cheap to set up/

I haven't seen a single large enough to cover the whole radiator surface and pull enough volume. I only have used dual fans.

The fan doesn't but your shroud needs to in order provide efficient and effective cooling. Another alternative is a good quality flex fan. They can be a little noisier but definitely reduce drag.

It really depends; If you are not going to be in any city traffic, i feel a single could do the trick. But it should be large enough to pull in close to or as much as the stock fan.
If you are going to be spending any time in traffic It would probably be safer to go with duals and i think i can get a link in a few days for a kit specifically for 73-87's.
