Just got myself a '79 Chevy Scottsdale 3/4 ton 4x4.  Picked it up last night.  I bought my wife a G6 to drive and am getting rid of our 00 Blazer but this left me concerned about not having four-wheel drive capability.  I went on the hunt for a cheap 4x4 and found just what I had in mind.  Four speed manual (Muncie Rockcrusher?), four wheel drive, 5.7L 350, looks like an '85 front clip, a bed off a early 80s, and plenty of rot and rust!  Came to me with an old electric 6' snow plow as well, which does seem to work. 

Some of the issues I'm facing now is that the Quadrajunk carb needs rebuilt, needs a basic tune-up, the heat is stuck on full-blast, it needs new valve cover gaskets, needs a RH brake caliper, not a single gauge in the cab works, and I think it needs a battery and voltage regulator.  So, I'm hoping to get some help with these issues.  I've been into the GM B-body scene for the last ten years and own two 9C1 Caprice police cars, a 94 and 95 both with the LT1 350.  I'm completing a restoration on my 95 now so I'm not afraid to do a little work myself.  I"ll put some pics of tonight (not that this truck is worthy of pics!!!).

Welcome! What are your plans for the truck? - Just make it road worthy or are you planning on maybe restoring it also?

For now I just want to get him roadworthy.  It's quite a beast.  Meaning it needs some work before I'd trust it much! 

I'd like to get some tunes in it (has the old two-knob setup, but no radio), find out why the headlights dim and brighten w/ the throttle (voltage regulator, alternator?), rebuild the carb (has to have a shot of Ether when cold), and replace the valve cover gaskets (leaky, really leaky).

Welcome from New Hampshire. The trans should be an SM456. 6' plow isn't wide enough for a full size truck, 7.5' is the smallest it should have on it.

The rockcrusher is a close ratio passenger car trans.  The one you have as Blazin pointed out should be a SM465 toploader.

It's a real POS.  Man there is rust everywhere.  I don't really care about the rust, it's just an old truck, I just hope it doesn't make every repair 100 times harder.

Tonight I spent some time with old Scotty 

Installed a spare MX7000 lightbar I had since I have a plow now.  Installed my UHF radio for the wrecker company I work for as well.  Pulled the instrument cluster to inspect things and try to locate the reason nothing works in there.  Also am cutting out the dash where the AC vent should go for a four-switch box for the lightbar.
