Well what is this going in? The Edelbrock carb is ok but make sure you get a jet/metering kit or it'll run rich out of the box. What are you doing to the lower end? What is it a 350? What compression ratio are you shooting for? 882 castings are boat anchors. Your cam is pretty mild and your set up sounds like it will hardly yield that 300HP you're looking for.
How about some Hypereutectic pistons - shoot for around 10:1 CR
Here's a nice cam and lifter kit
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2DK1107&autoview=sku
get a double roller timing set while you're at it.
As far as heads go a decent set of Vortech heads and a matching intake
Not sure if they sell them with screw in studs if not upgrade and install screw in studs, guide plates, hardened pushrods and a nice set of roller rockers. Now you've got 300HP

Oh my I forgot to put in alot. Okay, this is a Stock 350 Shortblock from a 74 3/4 ton Chevy. And the Heads are angle milled for 67cc, so they arnt that bad. Also using a cloyes tru-roller timing chain and 1.6 roller rockers. And its going in my 74 1/2 ton shortbed Chevy C10 with a TH-350. Whew. lol
But what I was aiming for here was a really decent engine that would pull from an idle. I was kinda concerned about the cam being a smidge too big for the application though. I also am opperating on a self imposed budget for this build, be it that this truck is solely for running parts and going dirtbiking. Hence the 882s and a stock shortblock, there just is zero need to spend more money than...well basically any money at all. That and I would like a smidgen of gas milage here, maybe 9-10 fingers crossed.
So any ideas folks? Do I have the right idea here about the build?

Well you're not gonna get 300 HP out of your original combo - but if you want good performance that original cam you selected will do fine and is a nice streetable grind however ditch the 1.6:1 rockers and put on a set of 1.5:1's.

Why's what? Why you won't get 300 HP out of that engine set up? If that's what you meant your stock lower end, .454 .468 lift is a mild cam matched with low flow 882's isn't gonna make 300HP too easy. If you bump up that cam and better heads you'll get closer to that # but I would so much focus on reaching a HP # as much as work with what you got. If you want to stay in your budget you'll be happy with that original combo. It'll sound good and be streetable on pump gas but again stay with the 1.5:1 ratio. That cam's duration will work well with a 1.5:1 rr but increasing rocker ration will just increase valve lift and not change the duration of the cam.

Oh I was only asking about the roller rockers. I was asking because I have only ever seen good things by increasing the rocker ratio so long as the valvetrain can support it (and this one can). More ratio = more lift = more airflow = more power; and getting the more lift while keeping my duration low (for torque and drivability) is only a good thing in my eyes. Sure it may only add up to 5hp or so but every bit helps (especially when it cost nothing more than the 1.5s).
