400whp C10, will she hold?
« on: May 30, 2007, 03:50:10 am »
Heres the deal guys I have a 74 C10 2wd Original 6 cylinder, thats getting a 475-500 hp engine and I need to know if it will hold. "Project Warthog"

The tranny is an olds th-350...ewwww. If it goes im upgrading to a bullit-proof TH400.

But the BIG question is the 10 bolt rear. Its just an open ended 8.5". But I am going to run a mini-spool w/light street driving and major off road.

I am also going to chop the leafsprings off and build LCA's/ Panhard bar/ Coilovers for the rear. Unless thats a horrible idea in which case I dont have a huge problem doing some South Side Bars.

Thanks guys!

What engine are you going to bolt to the BOP trans?
When you say Major Offroad, what are you talking about as far as a 2WD goes?
I personally wouldn't recommend a mini-spool for anything other than serious drag racing and then I would recommend C-clip eliminators and an actual spool.

What exactly are you building, and pre-runner for offroad?

Yeah don't run a spool on the street at all.

Yeah im going to make it into a pre-runner of sorts; im tearing the body off and just building a cage with chrome moly. Just fast dirt road/track. Should be fun, but it needs to be able to drive out to the place to play. And its a 406 Small block chevy with a 1800-5800 rpm band (my estimate). Should be ALOT of fun.

I would skip the mini-spool for that application unless you want to see how long it take to break something.
I would consider a locker that will give 100% traction and allow you to drive it on the street.
If you are going to do alot of offroading and only have to care about your well being, you can weld the spider gears, but it will be like a spool, bad in turns and for playing in the woods unlocking the inside wheel is a good thing.

How do you plan to bolt a BOP trans to a small block Chevy motor?
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

I thought of that after I posted it. Somewhere in the back of my mind it was buried along with all the other lost knowledge.
