TPI 350 in my 74 c10
« on: May 30, 2007, 07:38:03 pm »
I have the complete TPI setup off of my brothers 88 IROC. By complete, I mean: ECM, wiring harness (including all connectors), runners, throttle body, intake, etc. What is the best way to set this up in my 74? I am kind of hoping for a setup (wiring-wise) that looks almost factory to anyone glancing at the engine compartment. I don't have to worry about VATS, but I do have to worry about the MAF sensor. I plan on obtaining a good 87-92 350 to set this on, plus all new sensors based on a list I have from TPIparts.net. Any and all help is appreciated. I know it sounds weird, I just wanted to "preplan" this before I go diving in and get so frustrated for not thinking ahead.

Are you asking where to get an aftermarket harness?
You can convert it to Speed density and get rid of the MAP.
I got several parts from TPIparts.net for my TPI that is going on my Jimmy Project.
I would recommend an '87 EFI tank and sending unit with an AC 241 Pump for fuel lines.
You will also need fuel lines.
You can possibly run a C6 filter that has a built in regulator/return and only have to run one line to the TPI, but you will have to block the return on the intake.

I'd be careful about those filter/regulators - they fail all the time.

That should have said C5/C6..  Is that what you are saying fail?  What do you mean by all the time?
I have an 00 FRC Vette with 50K miles and it hasn't failed, my sister has a 99 Coupe with 78K miles that has never failed.
This is the first I have hear about any issues with them.

I am asking, basically, what I need to do to make the factory 88 iroc harness work in my 74. The c100 connects at the firewall, and the c207 goes from the ECM side back to the diagnostics link and fuse block. My question is: how do I make the harness work in my truck without having to find a donor for the interior half of the c100 and c207 connectors. I have the 88 camaro factory service manual, so finding wire traces, grounds, and schematics is not an issue. I just wondered if anyone has done it. Thanks for your help so far, guys. Also, I don't want to run a tank in the factory location. I am working on getting a blazer/suburban tank to go at the very rear/underbed where the spare should go. My truck is lowered, so I"m trying to tie up all loose ends AND smoothe the old filler neck hole on the bedside. If anyone remembers, there is no fuel door, just the ugly neck poking out. I'd rather have it behind my seat with the cap sticking out from the cab than on the side of the bed. It just doesn't look right to me.

what you need to do is study the pinouts and trace each circuit to see where it goes. There may be a jumper harness you can install from painless or the like but other than that study each pin and it's location/purpose and it shouldn't be too hard to wire up.

I'm not sure what a c5c6 filter is but I thought you were referring to a filter/regulator assembly. I have replaced several of them from failing. When they fail they return the fuel pressure to the tank rather than to the rail. Is that what you were talking about?

I agree if you have the schematics and have the patience and a complete harness you should be able to integrate it with your current setup.  The engine can control can be seperate from your normal truck harness a the power/ground.

The C5/C6 Corvette filter I am refering to is the fuel filter regulator used on the 99-up Corvettes that only have a supply line running to the injectors and the filter has a built in regulator.  It has 2 port on the "supply" side, a supply and return and one feed port.
It looks like this:

Ok yeah those aren't just used on them that's why I was confused. I thought you were saying the filter is called a c5c6 filter. Lots of manufacturers use those. I just replaced the one in my sisters 99 grand Cherokee. 15PSI at the rail everything else dumped back in the tank. That's the problem with those filters that's why I would avoid them. I have personally replaced 4 of them in the last few months for the same reason.
