700R4/NP205 SWAP
« on: June 06, 2007, 12:06:16 pm »
I'm thinking of swapping in a 700R4 into my '76 K20. I've heard that both a shorter output shaft and an adapter plate can be used, and since I will be rebuilding the tranny anyways, I am going to use the shorter output shaft. The only other problem is that my NP205 is currently mated to a SM465. I need to know exactly what power sleeve I must change in my NP205 to make it work and if it is very easy. If it's not, then I will just trade my NP205 for one that was mated to a TH350. I know that I will have to move the crossmember, lenthen/shorten driveshafts, and run cooling lines, but are there any other large obstacles to this swap?

Thanks Again.

Not a big fan of the chain drive and wimpy aluminum case.

www.advanceadapters.com Will have the shaft you need. I did the exact same swap in my truck. The  shaft will have a female 10 spline on it ready to mate to your 205.
