What should I do for vacation in New England?
« on: June 19, 2007, 10:10:23 am »
I live in CT so anyone in the New England area got any suggestions? I've got a vacation in 3 weeks and decided I need to take the woman somewhere besides Cape Cod that's within driving distance. So throw me some ideas for those of you who know the area

I was gonna suggest Cape Cod until i read the rest of your post...whale watching leaving Provincetown is awesome!  Marconi's radio signal site is great too.

Go to Bean town and watch the bosox at fenway pak (not misspelled).
Then go to Concord and Lexington and follow Revere's ride to the old bridge.  I think they call it the minute man trail now. Then stop by Walden's Pond made famous by good ole tax dodger Henry David Thoreau.   Then go to Salem and visit the old witch hunt area and Nathaniel Hawthornes house of seven gables.  Plymouth is in the neihborhood too where the pilgrims stepped on some rock there (as a true Virginian would note, 13 years after Jamestown). The lantern ghost tour there is out of this world.
A little north of boston is Gloucester, which the movie the perfect storm put on the national map.

And don't forget Quincy Mass where a couple of presidents came from that shared the name Adams. And a great historian writer by the name of Henry Adams.

As the country song goes, "it's a long way to Richmond, driving north on 95" so it will be a while before i hit the boston area again, but would love to check out these sites.  I could spend weeks there and not hit everything.

We honeymooned in Cape Cod, so we did the fenway park and Plymouth thing...but that was it---we were kind of busy the rest of the time  ;) .

I am a history and literature buff, and there is no better place to visit than that area...from the revolutionary war sites to Longfellow, emerson, hawthorne and thoreau sites.

I would say go skiing at Stowe,VT (another dream of mine) but I dont think the snow level will be quite right in three weeks.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
