Exhaust cross over pipe
« on: June 25, 2007, 12:40:54 pm »
I recently bought a 81 Cheyenne W/305 4bbl.  It has a fairly new dual exhaust with glass packs.
Would it be worth taking to the local muffler shop and having a cross over pipe added?
The cats have already been removed by the previous owner.

Are you talking about adding a H-pipe?  What are your reasons for wanting to add it?

My understanding is that a crossover "H" pipe decreases back pressure by distributing the pulses through both sides and also decreases the "rapp and pop" sound.  Is this correct?

It equalizes exhaust pressure  and is an easy way to tune your exhaust. I doubt it will help with popping though...sounds like maybe a lean condition or timing problem there
