no bottom end?
« on: August 27, 2007, 09:47:56 pm »
K so i just picked up this 85 short box with a 350 edelbrock intake and carb but thats it for power adders. Did a tune up on it oil change, trans filter and fluid, cap and rotor etc. It was running great other than the choke needed to be adjusted. So on the weekend I adjusted the choke and put some new champion platinum plugs in it. Now it seems like there is no low end power. I gapped the plugs to .045" and the choke is fully open when warm. What happened to my power. The truck would smoke 'em as soon as I stabbed the pedal and break loose just before second gear on the th 350. Now I'm lucky if they even break loose from stand still. Help please I cant stand no power!!

You must have crossed a wire. Double check the firing order on the cap. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 clockwise

*Also check to make sure the distributor isn't loose and reset your timing

If you are sure the firing order is correct pull the plugs back out and check them.

If your firing order is correct, then the one other thing to check is that you did not pull a plug wire end loose when you took the plug boots off the plugs. I have seen this more than a few times and it can be a pain to find. Take off one wire at a time and check with a ohm meter. Then replace and go on to the next. You can also check for spark with a spare spark plug, one wire at a time.
You said you replaced you cap also so I would check both ends carefully.
Also check for cracked plugs. It can happen easy if your not careful and use the wrong socket.
You want the one with the rubber insert to protect the plug and help guide it in strait.
