Grant steering wheel

Hi all. I am trying to install a Grant steering wheel on my 73 C10. Problem is when I tighten the nut the wheel is really hard to turn. As it turns out I am supposes to install a "ring" on the main shaft before the Grant hub goes on and it doesn't come in the kit and it doesn't exist on the factory wheel. Anyone ever come up with a solution for this?

Do you have the correct hub for your column? If the hub is bottoming out and not preloading the upper column bearing it will cause it to bind. Take a few pix of what you've got going on exactly and make sure you have the right hub

Just out of curiosity, what wheel did ya get?

I am thinkin about a Grant Challenger 4 spoke or the crome chain wheel

The washer is just an 1/8 thick (just installed one yesterday) just get a proper washer to fit the shaft snuggly (inside diam.) and it will work fine. P.S. just a tip .....when you come to installing the horn button sand off or sratch some of the paint(on the wheel if you have a painted one) for the opposite side of the fiberboard (metal side) that comes in the install kit, so the horn will work. LOL..... I had scratched my rearend for 15min. as to why it wasn't working!  lol lol   My only excuse , It was Monday.

Thanks big78chevy. I could not find a washer that worked so I made one. Works like a charm. There is nothing like old school powersteering and a small wheel, so easy to park.
