CHEAP performance parts
« on: October 28, 2007, 12:16:25 am »
I saw a company on EBAY called White performance. They have a bunch of performance parts VERY CHEAP. I'm almost afraid to try them. Does anyone have any experience dealing with them and their products?  Example; an HEI MSD distributoe with a 55,000 volt coild is about $225.00 from Summit or Jegs. From White Perormance, their "Wysco" brand has a 65,000 volt coil and it's around $90.00 ! :o They have a "Tilton" style mini starter for around $90.00 as well. ETC ETC.

Try that. Their actual web site (www.whiteperformance.com) does not show the parts they sell. It only shows their performance machine shop. Apparently they only sell through EBAY or if you call them.

I CAN say this about them--long story short....A local Speed Shop sold me full roller rockers and said they were Scorpion brand. I saw the EXACT same ones on the White Performance listing CHEAPER and supposedly by a company called WYSCO. ALSO, the headers I purchased from the same local shop are EXACTLY the same as on White's site. I'm thinking the local shop is buying from them and marking it up. The rockers and headers are awesome quality so I'm not complaining. Just looking for a way to save some $$$$$$. You know how it is when rebuilding the entire truck from the frame up...and down.

I just bought my Comp Cams XE268 cam and lifters from Discount Performance Parts on Ebay.  $165 shipped was their price. With the Canadian dollar where it is, I couldn't turn that down. The local speed shop wanted $240, taxes in, for the same cam, but with some other brand of lifters. They didn't charge me any taxes when I brought it through the border either. Good prices at DPP. And a free t-shirt.

That IS a good deal. I paid $189.00 for my Voodoo cam/lifters through Arrow Speed in tx.
My concern is buying brands that are unheard of. I know we all pay for the name brand stuff but it's USUALLY
because they have developed a reputation of quality. I've never heard of the "WYSCO" brand and am just cautious
about it because it's so much cheaper than the name brands. Like most of us on this site, I'm not made of money and try real hard
to get the most for my money but don't want to skimp if it's going to be junky stuff. Nuff said.

And with SO much stuff coming out of China these days, it could most likely be made there and rebranded with a more domestic-sounding name. Another low-price product is Professional Products. Their manifolds are clones of Edelbrock Performer stuff. And it's a fair bit cheaper than the Edelbrock stuff too. It could be okay quality stuff, I really don't know but usually the savings is coming from somewhere and it could be in how their molds are setup and how they cast their stuff. You wouldn't want voids and core shift from a high-volume cheaply-made product. Lots of retailers sell Professional Products now though. And some crate motors I see in the magazines use their stuff too.

I don't know their shop services seem pretty high priced to me. But then again I have a machine guy who quotes my price about half what anyone else does it for....

I've built engines for people using the china parts and have to say the manifolds were actually nicer just didn't have that brand name... :-X

the only stuff china makes that is actually bad is their steel products, which is why the Chinese automaker Chery can't get any of their vehicles sold in the US, cause the steel they use in their frames can't pass US crash tests.

They seem like a reputible place to me. The only way to tell for sure is to buy something under $50 and see how the product is and how well they handle you, their customer. If it's good and you like it, go for it. I don't think there is anything wrong with off brand parts, not at all. I've bought from a Ebay store before for some of my oldsmobile engine parts, I ordered a camshaft that was a Engine Pro brand and it worked fine. I've never dealt with this company but I sure like those $69.95 billet tall valve covers, I love that price too. I say go for it.

BTW, if you look at their feedback, they have 18197 positive feedbacks, and 3 negative feedbacks. To me this says they are good, have good products, and back those products up. And somewhere along the line 3 assholes ordered some parts and didn't like that they weren't name brand or something and got a bit pissy and left some bad feedback. And take the time to go down throught there and read a few feedbacks and see what other poeple think.

I bought a HEI sbc distributor with a coil cap and rotor from them for $49.95. it got here quickly and it works great.

i thought that it had to be junk for such a low price but i have a friend that uses them alot with no problems so i felt safe buying it.
