Can someone identify this plug?
« on: November 01, 2007, 12:20:21 am »
This plug was just hanging loose underneath the dash and right in front of the fuse box, couldn't tell what it went to.  Anybody got any idea what its for?

Looks like speed control signal for the cruise. Does your truck have cruise control or an ECM?

AGREE, THIS I REMOVED from under the dash when removed my working cruise control! I still ask myself   "WHY DID I DO THAT?" ----- oh well I never used it.

Yes, the truck has cruise control, but at some point in the past, the previous owner switched out steering columns for one that did not have cruise.  I've got another tilt column coming that does have cruise on it that I am going to replace it with.  Shouldn't there be a place on the new column for that wire to plug in to?  The guy said the new column was perfect and that it had all of the switches, etc. and that everything was working properly when he removed it?  Thanks for your help.

WELL? is your cruise contro; working. your replacement column does not have cruise control switches----that is why this plug is disconnected.  nothing to worry about!

Geeze! ::)  I know the column doesn't have cruise control.  I asked the question because I didn't know what the stupid switch was for in the first place.  Since someone (other than you) mentioned that it was possibly for the cruise control, I realized that, since the column had been replace,  it probably was the cruise switch.

Calm down a little, the previous post had me thrown off a little.
BTW, you don't need a complete column to add cruise control, just the stalk piece.  If the truck had cruise there should be a place to hook it up.

I am calm, I simply do not care for someone to try to make me appear foolish on a public forum (WELL!).  Let me see if I can get this straightened out.  I bought a used 85 chevy truck.  The truck has cruise control, but the previous owner had replaced the original tilt column that had gone bad with one that was a non-tilt, non-cruise model (I say non-cruise because it didn't have the cruise type turn signal switch on it).  Ok, that's the background.  The other day I was trying to fix the horn on the truck and while digging around under the dash I saw this plug that was just hanging there.  I didn't know what it was for so I put the question to the board.  VileZambonie suggested that it might be for the cruise control.  Remembering that the original cruise column had been replaced, I realized that he was probably correct and that it did indeed go to the column cruise switch.  I have since bought another "tilt" type column to replace the "non-tilt" column that is currently in it.  This new column has the cruise type turn signal switch on it, so as soon as it gets here and I get it put in, I'll know for sure whether or not the plug really is for the cruise.  I hope this clears up my obviously poorly worded previous post.  Thanks very much for everyone's help.
