suggestions for stereo purchase

True, but for me and my country music the RF 6x9's and the RF 3.5's plus the Sony deck, will sound great in that truck. If i do eventually need more bass, as I'm sure I will, I'll go with the standard 10" MTX and the RF Amp to power it. I'm also considering a Clarion 7 Band EQ to go with the set-up...

From my experience, you need to do a LOT of soundstage and deadening work in these trucks before expecting a noticeable improvement from an EQ. You'll notice it, but well aimed kickpanel pods (tweets and mids) and an extra set of eye level tweets driven with VERY low power, and a couple hundred pounds of sound mat (brown bread, dynamat, etc) will make a much more noticeable improvement in sound quality.

There are reasons you don't see these trucks at sound offs in the SQ catagory.  It's nearly impossible to time correct the front stage.  The truck abounds with reflective surfaces.  Ergonomics suck.  Other than that, they're great!!

I agree, its never going to be perfect, but working on better than stock location imaging, and loading up on the sound deadener is still going to make a more noticeable difference than an equalizer..IMO anyway.

Agreed.  Powered equalizers ususally just introduce noise anyway.

I made boxes for the 6x9s.  How hard would it be to put the 6.5s in the doors?  Is it possible or are 6.5s too big?

I've searched but I can't find much info for putting 6.5s in the doors--
does it take much modification?  am I gonna need to cut any metal in the door or just make a new lower panel?

I personally wouldn't put speakers in the door.  I would mount them in kick panel enclosures.  I do know that Classic Trucks did a writeup on one that they mounted it behind the grilles in the door.  It is in the latest issue.

has anyone made a sort of mini console to house speakers on the middle hump of the floor?

I have a 79 Sierra Classic, is there anywhere I can buy the kick panels or should I make them myself? 
The ones sold here say they don't work on Sierras or Silverados.

I haven't worked with fiberglass but I'm thinking of trying it out to make some kick panels for the 6.5s.

If your kick panels don't go to the floor ,they will work.  BUT we have a Silverado Version that is currently in the testing phase.

Mikeith made a console for his truck, so yes it is possible to make it house speakers.

there is a pioneer package at bestbuy that i seen for 80 bucks, its a pioneer CD player with 4x 6 1/2" speakers.  not sure of the quality but the cd player did have an aux plug for an ipod on the front.  i thouht about getting it since my AM radio and 1 4x6" speaker aint good.

I got this set from walmart for $94.  It had the head unit, 2 6x9s, and 2 6.5s.

it plays mp3 cds, and has a front hookup for an ipod, etc...
and it has a remote.

I love it it sounds great, i'd buy another one no question.

One thing though, it does not have rca outs for an amp.

I havent mounted the 6.5's yet, just the 6x9s

what's the specs on the headunit, 6x9's and 6.5's? Let me know how you like those Sony speakers, I've personally never been a fan of their speakers, but their headunits are the best ones IMHO.

Alpine all the way, good head units, simple, and fully adjustable, affordable too, and the quality is second to none, for speakers i cut my holes a little bigger in the dash and squeezed some 4" in there and i built a set of boxes to fit my 2 5" sound mids behind my seat, but soon to make boxes to fit some 5x7's

If you want a top end stereo, there are better choices, but all i wanted is a basic radio setup that won't have a sub included.  I was very suprised at the sound quality of this setup.  i don't know what the 6x9s are rated for because they're in the doors, but the 6.5s are sitting right here are rated for 190w peak  40w rms  @4ohms.  It's not a super powerful system, but the components are matched well.  It gets loud enough to give me a headache, without distortion.  Bass response is very good.  and that's with only the 6x9s in the doors.  I havent installed the 6.5s yet, ive been too busy to come up with boxes to put em behind the seat, and i also ran out of speaker wire, so i said screw it for now...

If i was planning a bad system, I wouldn't get this.  But for a great sounding everyday stereo without a sub, for the price, i dont think you can beat it.

If i was building a awesome sysyem, I'd start with a kenwood amp and some jbl speakers.
