Axle flip questions

 I am looking to do an axle flip on my 79 C-10.  For those of you that have done this, am I going to need to C notch the frame?  I have yet to lay under the truck and measure for my self, but feel I can get away with out doing it.  It is a Big 10 so its got a pretty heavy set of springs under it, so its going to take more than I'll put in it to make it sag.

Flipping the axle?  Do you mean a SUA conversion?  (spring under axle instead of SOA)  If you want to lower it like x inches then yeah.  Just a guess, but if you want to lay frame, then yes your going to have to notch it.

Ya an SUA as you put it.  Have you done it?  I don't want guessing, I want to know from someone that has done it.  I can guess and think about it all day long...

Nope, just trying to clarify it for others.  Is it that you don't want to notch the frame at all?  I would just suggest measuring it.

Years ago I towed a 3/4 ton 4x4 with my 79 Big 10, I remember it sagged some but not as far as I thought it would! 

Can I use my old shocks? 

If I end up towing much, I'll fab in a cross brace and add some air bags.

for a 5" drop you should be OK, 6", questionable, depending on what kind of ride you can take.

you can get a flip kit that will have the shock hangers, i have a set but didnt use them, i just baught smaller shocks.  the flip kit wont make you have to notch it, but it is recomended if you are going to have weight in the back because on a good bump the axle may hit the frame
