Gas gage
« on: December 30, 2007, 11:03:09 am »
How do you test the actual gage? We tested my wiring, senders, etc. New dual tank switch. When you switch from left to right tanks the gage moves. Problem is it goes from past full to way past full and there is only about a quarter tank in each tank.

When you grounded the wire to the gauge did it move?

We determined from the Haynes schematic that the odd pole on the back of the gage was ground, one of the others was resistance, the third positive? I think. Wiring is not my bag, and they guy helping me is a Toyota master tech so he was a little unsure of the American product. We grounded the ground then grounded the resistance and the gage moved but it went from over full to way way over full. The same as it did when installed in the cluster.

Take the pink wire key on engine off and disconnect it - observe the gauge. Then ground the pink wire. If the gauge doesn't move and you have continuity to the gauge and the fuse is good, the ground wire is good then replace the gauge.
