Bench seat repairs
« on: January 12, 2008, 06:21:59 pm »
I want to re-upholster my existing bench seat.  I see where I can order new aftermarket seat covers that are close to the original designs and fabrics for both the seat and seat back, along with hog rings and pliers to install them.  What I need to know is, if I decide to replace the seat cushion as well, how is it installed?  I assume it attaches to the seat frame somehow.  Can someone enlighten me?  Thanks.

There are lots of articles on rebuilding your seats. The foam sits inside the seat frame. The material is what ultimately holds it in place.

I started to reupholster mine...I just took out the seat and removed half of the vinyl before deciding that my wife's sewing machine was probably not gonna cut it for a heavy duty job like this.

I took the whole seat to a guy who does it professionally out of his garage.  Cost $180 bucks but he did give me padding with the new seat cover.  And he hog-ringed it onto the seat so all I really had to do was bolt it in.
Also the seat cover isn't all new fabric, he recycled the vinyl on the rear of the back (if that makes sense).

Just an FYI, but we sell upholstery kits for these trucks also.
