4wd to 2wd

anyone done this?
I am looking to convert a 4x4 to 2wd,and finding a 2wd blazer frame isn't easy.
I know the rear can be done with different hangers and springs,I am mostly concerned with the front suspension,are the mounting points there?

I'd wager it'll still be a LOT easier to find a 2wd blazer frame..

As Werewolf said it's most likely easier to find a 2wd Blazer. To answer your question, no the "mounting points" are not there,however once I checked into changing a 2wd into a 4wd & found using frame spec charts that the frame rail shape,steering box location,cab mounts,shock mounts,brake hoses,ect,ect. are the same. It has been years since I looked at this, but I remember finding some (oval ?)holes that were in the same place on both frames. The rad. support/4wd spring hanger mounts,second(under the motor) motor mount plates,ect.ect. would need changed. It boils down to grinding rivets, drilling holes. If I had a 2wd truck to steal the parts from & wanted a 2wd Blazer (& had a REAL nice 4wd Blazer) I think It would be better (maybe not easier) than cutting/splicing the frames. In the end it's probably better to sell the 4wd to someone who wants a 4wd & hunt the world over for a 2wd one. Good Luck, Lorne

man, it has always just baffled me that someone would ever castrate a 4x4 by making it a 2wd.  you should sell that 4x4 to someone who'd get good use out of it and find a truck that was "born" a 2wd and do whatever you must with it.

I love my 4x4 but I want a 2wd also,and they are hard to find especially around here.

like fordeatinz71 said. i believe its a sin to make a 4x4, a 2x4 thats like putting a blue oval on a GM. because there is no difference in sheetmetal just buy a 2x4 and save yourself the headache and maybe some green. just my opinion.

The mounting points are not there, but if you have a 4x4 pickup as a donor you can use it as a reference.  The Blazer and pickup are the same from the front cab mount forward.  There were be reference points that are common.  This has been done several times...  Finding a 73-82 Blazer/Jimmy is not an easy task, but there is one on here for sale...

I didn't realize I would ruffle so many feathers with this topic.
Don't get me wrong I understand where you are comming from(except that F@%D comment),but I don't feel that it is that big of a deal.
Think about it,what about shaving,chopping,body dropping or making a crew cab short box.....all different ways of converting from one thing to another.

If the 2wd was a more commom truck,I would not have to convert a 4x4.
Personally I have never even seen a 2wd,except online or on tv.
As far as the one for sale on this site,it is nice but out of my budget.
Also I do not want to buy a finished truck,I want to build mine!!
While your comments will not change my mind about making my 2wd blazer,I thank you all for your info on my frame questions.I will just have to keep searching for a 2wd frame.

How far would you be willing to go for a solid 2wd blazer frame? It would come with a free junk body, and probably junk drivetrain...They're really common around here, usually end up in the crusher, I could probably find 5 or 6 for sale in the local trader rag for $300-$600..Kirksville, Missouri is about 30 miles south of the Iowa border, and about 70 miles west of the Mississippi river.

wow i didnt mean to hurt your feelings i didnt know that 2x4 trucks were that rediculously uncommon. i just grew up with 4x4 only (never owned a 2x4 in my life). if all you can get is a 4x4 then i say go for it.

2WD K5's are VERY uncommon when compared to 4x4 versions.  I would be willing to say there is about 1 2WD for every 10-15 4x4's.
I wouldn't think twice to convert one.  2WD's were only offered from 1973-1982.

I have been trying to buy a 73-75 4x4 that has been put to pasture for the past 8-10 years.  They won't let it go.  Pretty soon there won't be a Blazer to want...

All Blazer and Jimmy's regardless of drive train configuration are K5's.
