why is everyones tailgate handle crooked?

well, not including the shaved guys...but is there a fix?  i may just have to shave mine, but don't want to have to relocate it to the inside...any other places for tailgate handles?

I have often wondered this aswell...I saw a straight one at a swap meet once but the latch mechanism didn't work ;D

That's from simply yanking up on them with sticking latches and rods. JCWhitney used to sell replacement ones that were actually pretty good and they even had chrome ones. Not sure if they still do. As far as relocating the handle without relocating it to the inside your options are limited without looking extremely redneck.

I was thinkin more along the lines of a pull starter cord off of a pushmower somewhere to pull it open ;D

lmao...That and if it bugs ya you could always go for a new high tech tail gate....Made from a 2x12 ...just make sure u spray paint the chevy logo back on it..And to dress it up even more nail some Chrome trim around the edges

I've seen a few over ambitious carpenters make their own gates, tool boxes and ladder racks out of wood...thats just not right!
I visioned a latch on the very bottom edge, clearance the lower lip enough to get your hand in and push up with finger tips. You would have to carefull to get your hand out before opening the gate but I think its possible.

grrr...why did you mention this?  i just went and looked at mine and it's freakin crooked too!  now you realize i have one more thing to fix...right?  because when i redo this thing, i plan to do it right!

well, take pix of when you do it, cuz i'm sure we'd be right after ya! ...maybe your handle is straight, but your truck is crooked? eh....eh?  ever think of that??/   ;D
