saw the rear helper bags post

but are the air adjustable shocks (like the monroes) just the same?  whenever i put some things in the bed(mower and other things) the rear sags.  it's pretty pathetic and i think the shmuck before took out one of my 4 or 5 leaves.  so, now i'm down to 3 or 4, i forget.... anyways, would the monroes be smooth (without a load as i seldom load it up) as any other shock?  i don't want to have to buy a new shock i.e. edelbrock type Plus the helper bags if the air adjustables would take care of both of them.  grazi...

Those air shocks dont provide much in the way of load assist.

They don't handle a lot of pressure, and dont have enough surface area to offer much support..they're mainly for smoothing the ride out.

I put a set of Gabriel coilover overload shocks on the '84 my dad now has, and they REALLY softened the ride and greatly increased its ride height with a load. That truck rides a fair bit nicer than my '83..Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any place that sells those coilovers anymore. I bought that set from JCW.

3 or 4 springs may be all your truck came with depending on the GVCR rating.  What comes on from the factory varies between GMC and Chevy even.  1/2 Ton SWB had the least.....

I haven't seen coil overs for these trucks in YEARS! I don't think anyone makes em.. The air bag helpers work pretty good. We put a set in a truck last year that tows a 5th wheel. Worked great

I bought these gabriels about 3 years ago..

I found them, JCW has em again..heres a link for rear shocks for a 1/2t 2wd, but they sell front shocks for 2wds, and front and rear shocks for 4wd trucks.
