Emergency brake setup

After building my exhaust system I realize my emergency brake cables are going to sit right on the pipes. I'm planning to run some sort of floor mounted (between the seats) e-brake handle and ditch the under dash style so I can get the front/intermediate cable to be in the center.
Has anyone else done this mod yet?

i know the ebrake cable on my 86 runs down the frame to the back where it crosses over to each brake instead of crossing over at the front like my 79. not sure if you can just put in the newer style or not.

I have a plan in my head and I think I'll be able to use the o.e rear set up. Just have to figure how to properly mount it so the front cable isn't sitting on the exhaust and if I'd have to somehow bracket it to the underside of the cab.
Thought about checking out some newer models like you mentioned. I just hate to start all over since I already have all new cables.
I hate to add holes to the floor unless absolutely necessary after I spent so much time welding up the floor pans etc.
I think a floor mount e-brake release would look cool though.,,behind the B&M shifter-between the buckets I need to find.
Someday I'll get it all done and running! LOL

All you have to do is get a new intermediate cable. Mock it up with a cord, rope, wire etc through some eyelets in the frame so it's routed away from your exhaust. then find the closest length replacement cable and make up a connecting link to the proper length. That's what I usually do and it works great.

That's what I think also. The issue is that my exhaust is mounted up pretty high and I really don't want the cables below the exhaust.
I can make it work above the exhaust I just need to decide if I'll have to mount a guide on the underside of the floor to the handle. It's kind of hard since I'm not ready to mount the cab yet. Trying to get as much done under the truck as possible before the body goes on.
