the vehicle(s) you wish you never let get away
« on: February 25, 2008, 02:09:13 pm »
Hello all,
i was stumbling thru some pics and came across this pic of my uncles old 1978 3/4 ton 4wd truck. It was like a dark green and he use to plow with it.And then the convertor let go and he gave it away to a friend. It had a 350 and was built and he started putting NOS parts on it like fenders and was gonna get it painted but it never happened. When i was like 12 i think or 13 my cousin wanted his ski nautique ski boat and i told him you can have that i want this truck.Well we both lucked out and he never got the boat and i never got the truck. But heres a pic of it like in 1985-1986

Man i wished i got the oppertunity to get it, i would still own it to this day .
thanks
pat

p.s. i had 3 others i shouldve kept but i wouldnt have made it this far in life as i wouldve been broke.I also had a 68 SS chevelle i bought cheap but needed everything and didnt have the correct 396 in it and tranny(which now in my garage i got a 68 396 motor) i wouldve kept that 1 and a 81 regal limited, this car was sweet, it only needed a good powerplant, it had a 1/2 white landau roof and plush interior, red in color, i gave it away to a slavage yard and regret ever doing that and a 1980 olds cutlass i bought it for 1k and it had a 1972 cutlass 350 rocket motor in it.I redid the body and painted it black cherry metallic, i sold it and the kid i sold it to totally trashed it and destroyed it.I`ll regret getting rid of the last 2 forever..

p.s.s well my uncle just informed me it was a 1977 not a 78 eh i was 1 year off AND  this pic was taken when i lived in rhode island sorry forgot to add that in as well ;D

My great uncle Harold ( my name sake ) moved to Arizona when I was a kid. While he lived there he bought a 1980 C 10 step side. 250 I 6 with an SM456. When I was about 14 my mother and I flew out and helped him and my aunt pack up there stuff for a moving van to bring back east. We also loaded up his truck. hooked his travel trailer to the back and drove it back. I always loved that truck. He would put it away in the winter etc. Without my knowledge he decided to sell it. A local garage owner caught wind of it and stole it out from under me before I knew what happened. I would have liked there car too. but it ended up rusting away up here being it was from down there it didn't take long. 70 2 door Dodge Dart 318 auto trans.

that is a cool truck, looks like it has a 73-74 grille. The one that got away was a 72 chevelle 2 door I had. I had to sell it when my 8 yr old son was born to help pay for diapers and such.

this is my first full-size chevy truck, but i wish i still had my old and first monte carlo. it was an 82 and the body was mint. had a little v-6 in her but the interior was plush and comfy. would have been a great home for a 350. but i sold it to my cousin after i picked up a slightly newer one and then she sold it to some college kid who wanted a beater while his s10 was getting fixed. C'est la vie.

My got away from vehicle was a 66 Chevelle SS 396. I was in my mid teens, and was forced to get rid of it by my parents because they thought I was gonna get killed in it, and they were probably right because I had respect for the cars condition but none for its power. But man what a way to go. Sold it, bought a 73 chevy short wide , and enjoyed it for almost a week. I neglected to tell them that it was a 454, and would smoke the tires as bad as the chevelle. Got a whoopin, they sold the truck and kept the money. I am looking for another 66 Chevelle now.

Can only pick one?  If so it would have to be the 1993 Sonoma SWB 4.3L w/ 195hp.  I loved this truck.  It was the first new vehicle I ever bought, kept it for about 1.5 years and sold it at a profit, and bought an 81 K10, (which is another one I wish I kept)  SWB, Silverado, power everything, factory tach, factory bucket seats, SM465, 12bolt rear, dual tanks, quad shocks, A/C etc.  Another is the 1975 my father bought new.  If he would have kept it up when he left, I probably would have kept it.  And I was suppose to get my grandfathers 1974 Super with 454/400, but I lost touch with my aunt when her house burned and found out last year it went to the salvage yard.  I have a tendency to keep vehicles....

When I was 19 (40 yrs ago!) I bought a 1956 2 door ford Victoria, 292 V8 auto. Really nice. Got it stuck in my girlfriend's yard one rainy night because I left the emerg. brake on and tried to leave. it just spun and spun more in reverse. ::) Finally her old man came out, drenched, and screamed at me to pull the E-brake lever and get out of his yard.Only he wasn't so nice about it. I never had the nerve to go back. Sold the car for $200 when I went into the service 6 months later. Stupid is as stupid does....

lmao  :D

Well.. before I got my truck, I was 16 and wanted a project car. Unlike other kids, I didn't want a new fancy car, I wanted an old beat up muscle car that I could wrench on and have it nice and restored at age 18. The car I almost landed was a 1968 Ford Mustang with a 289ci H.O. motor and a ford 9" rear end.. that puppy was sweet. The engine was good, all it needed was some minor care and some body work and paint... That and new brakes. The guy let me drive it around the block and I almost took out someones mail box on the corner, lol. But the guy wanted 5k for it and at the time my limit was 4k. No matter how much I tried he stayed firm at 5k. So I had to let her go..  :'(

But I'm still glad that I got the truck I have. It's been in my family forever.
My truck is my flying fortress, the road is my sky, and Toyota's are the enemy bunkers that need a busting.

1980 monte...original turbo(scoop and all)...rust free.  Rare car with a rearend like a 79 and a nose like a 81. Got it with no engine and dropped a 305 in it that I had.  Not saying what i traded it for cuz i don't like to think about it anymore.
