My recent experience with AGR
« on: March 12, 2008, 03:01:34 pm »
Just thought I'd share with everyone what a fantastic experience I just had with AGR.  So, some time ago I swapped hydroboost onto my truck and decided I would complement that with a shiny new PS pump.  At the time, I thought that I'd be putting in an AGR fast ratio box some time in the future so I went with their fancy blueprinted $155 pump.  Installed it, bled it, took it for a test spin, seemed to work great.  But, now that I am actually starting to drive my truck regularly I notice that it's leaking and starting to make alot of noise.  Pulled it off and discover that the front seal is leaking.  Called AGR up and they say send it in, but its out of warranty so it'll cost you $75 bucks to repair it.  Hmmm...that put's me at $230 plus shipping for a PS pump!  Needless to say I won't be doing that.  I'll just order up a rebuilt ACDelco pump for $45, like I should have done in the first place.  Live and learn. ::)  But if I do still decide to go with a fast ratio box in the future it'll be a Borgeson box.

AGR doesn't make a fast ratio box for these trucks.  No one does that I have seen either.

AGR offers a 16/13:1 variable box (#204352) or a 14:1 box (not listed on website, must call).  Borgeson offers the new Delphi 600 box for '60-'90 ??? applications in 16:1, 14:1, and 12.7:1 ratios.

Why not just put a reman pump inside your chrome housing?

I just ordered a reman pump.  Like I said it's what I should have done in the first place.

AGR offers a 16/13:1 variable box (#204352)  - this is the stock box for these trucks.
A 14:1 isn't a fast ratio box, it is basically a non variable box version listed above.  Another words, it if isn't faster than 13:1, it is the same speed as the factory box.
Fast would be 12:1 or less (like a camaro/S10)

They pumps aren't that special either, just higher pressure valving.  I have both the box and the pump...
