PICs - I put 6x9s in factory rear corner brackets
« on: March 15, 2008, 11:30:38 pm »
It was kinda easy actually.

First, you've gotta swap sides with the brackets.  The right side will go on the left and vise versa.

I used the speaker cover as a template to cut out the existing bracket.  I used a dremel tool with a cut-off wheel.

Here are the brackets cut out to fit the 6x9's

Notice that I have flattened out the bottom bracket mount and have twisted it slightly.  You will see why shortly.

The cover required a little massaging to fit down over the speaker.

Here they are with the speakers mounted

And then mounted in the truck.  Notice how the bottom mount goes now.  You can put a screw in it now, but, after I installed the top screws I don't think I really need to. On each side, one of the top mounting tabs lined up with the factory hole and i had to drill one hole on each side.

Almost looks like it came from the factory like that.  It sounds very good too.  Now just gotta get my sub box built for my Kenwood sub and she should be good to go.

I know I didn't go into a lot of detail, so, if anybody has any questions, I'll be glad to try to help you.

I've been wondering how that mod would look.  I'll be doing it to my78 very soon seeing how good yours came out.  Great job!

20 years ago I had a set of aftermarket brackets for 6x9's...while my truck sat for several years all the stereo stuff disappeard out of it including the brackets.

That install looks good.

DO THIS BRACKETS SEAL UP NICELY AGAINST THE CAB?  or  Do they have gaps around the bracket and cab?

The top radius and inside of the bracket are tight to the cab.  The outside is pretty close, but the door opening is curved so there is a slight gap there.  The bottom is open.  I will get installed pics soon, I hope by the weekend.  I work long days, spend time with my wife and 5 month old after work...so time is limited.  I am only making these because I made myself a set...figured I'd help some others out.  I am not getting rich off these folks, nor do I intend to.
