transfer case

hi everybody i want to check fluid in my transfer case and front diff.  Where is the plug to check it at?  and how hard is it to change i have a 1983 chevy 1/2 not sure on what kind of front diff i have or transfer case.

remove the check plug on level ground. In the rear it's a 3/8" drive square hole

Transfer case if it's a 208 is a 30MM bolt you need to remove the top one (obviously or all the fluid would come out)

And the front diff check plug is actually on the meatball cover.

If its original front differential, its a 10 bolt.
I am sure everyone will disagree with me on this, but I have been told by three different guys that rebuild transmissions, transfer cases, etc. to run 5 / 30 motor oil not ATF in a 208 transfer case. I do in all of mine and have never ever had a problem.

Blazin, why did they tell you to do that?

Dexron flows like a 5w oil. Think of it like this, would you oil your air tools with motor oil? I would definitely run ATF in the 208 but I would still like to know their reasoning behind it.
