some before and after emissions removal pics.
« on: March 20, 2008, 05:28:16 pm »
Well I hope this is the right place for it LOL.

Been removing the emission stuff on our 84 recently. I had to rebuild a carb for it and do away with the egr, then came vacuum lines, and so on and so on. The latest was the smog pump and air tubes from the manifolds. Big difference in looks I think.

Here's some pics for you guys.....

BEFORE....

One DURING....

and AFTER...

Now I have to ask is it ok for me to post pics like this? Everyone else attachs them I guess or does direct link. I don't wanna take up alot of board room or get in trouble so is this ok? If not I'll gladly change it if someone tells me what to change them to or do with them.

The image is hosted on photobucket so don't sweat it. Looks good. I would do some painting and put all your wires in looms. I must say I don't really like that air cleaner though.

yea had to hurry up and throw something in there, had to get to work the next morning LOl.

We are hoping to do headers and duals soon so the manifolds will get ditched probably soon.

I never understood why those small air cleaners are so popular on four barrel carbs.  Aren't they very restrictive?

Good choice eliminating all that emissions garbage.  I passed the TX 2-speed test not long ago with only a 3-way cat.  My HC's were less than 25 ppm, C0% was 0.02%, NOx was 703 ppm.  Better than my old 305, with all the emissions trim, in all areas except NOx (attributable to the open air cleaner I'm running).  Proof that a well tuned engine and a good 3-way cat is all you need to run clean.

I don't see how they'd be anymore restrictive then a large one with the same type of filter.

Because all filters have a max cfm per square-inch flow rating.  Less square inches of surface area equals less cfm supported.  K&N says, for their filters, take the surface area in square inches and multiply that by 6 to get a good approximation of the cfm that filter is capable of supporting.

To me them air filters are good for dual quads not single carbs like that.I go with a k& n style 14 inch air cleaner and the k&n top as well.

thanks
