Black Ice is Very Real
« on: March 24, 2008, 05:15:28 pm »
Last saturday morning I hit an invisible evil in my pretty truck :'(.  The truck is repairable and I was not hurt.  But her nose is slightly crooked, frame is over about 8 inches to the right, from ahead of the steering box.  I have a good ins.co.  They are going to have an appraiser look at my previous pictures and my sales receipt from the purchase of my truck last June.  I was getting off one freeway going downhill on a ramp to another freeway, when some guy blew around me on the left, going about 55mph.  Then he started fishtailing, I thought he was going to lose it so I took my foot offa da gas, and then the merry-go-round started, around and around I went, and the a wall jumped in front of me and stopped me dead in my tracks, facing the wrong way from the direction I was going.  Heavy traffic was flowing pretty good, I got out of my truck and ran like the dickens uphill in fear that someone would hit my truck and drag it down the ramp and run me over.  Like I said, the truck is repairable, and my ins. company is getting an independent appraiser to value my truck b4 the wreck.  Nothing was leaking after I hit the wall and the engine and trans had no leaks either, and worked perfectly, because another male motorist helped me let the air out of the front tires so I could turn the wheels enough to get it onto the shoulder.   BTW, I do have full coverage insurance on it with a 500 dollar deductible......... here are some after effect pics...Larry

Glad you are OK.  Pretty truck.  If your insurance is a stated value type policy you will probably come out fine.  Hopefully it isn't totalled in the insurance companies mind.  I know around here if it is a total and you fix it, it can never have full coverage again.  The main thing is you are not hurt.

Nice looking truck. Hopefully you will have it all prettied up again before long. Thats always the way, some other @^&*+&# causes the accident. I bet he straitened up and kept right on going?

Nice truck, at least it's fixable. A truck like that i'd find a way to fix it no matter what.

I normally Don't drive it in the snow, as a matter of fact, there was no snow on the roads , they had been plowed and salted and were only wet.  My mother had a heart attack 5 days prior to my trucks demise.  I had stayed with my mother for 4 days after they let her go.  Just what any loving son would do.  It had snowed about 8 inches the night before, and we have an excellent county roads Dept. Here in Michigan.  They had plowed and salted the ramps really well, and ramps were just wet.   But, because that section of the ramp is elevated and the wind was blowing a bit 5 - 10 mph from the south the roadbed grew invisible ice.  My wife needed her car for Dr. App't's. When my mom was released from the hosp.  I told her I'd use my truck.  Well, after I got mom squared away, I decided to go home early in the morning to rid my drive and walks of the white snow.  My wife is disabled, and I just knew that she would be out there in the yard cleaning it up if I didn't get there soon.  And then that's when my world fell apart.  My wife (being a Taurus) is very STUBBORN, and was out there and had most of it done by the time the wrecker driver got me home with my baby in tow. My wife has very sever Crohn's disease and Rheumatoid arthritis,  she is paying now for what she did on Sat. she can hardly git around right now.  She was almost in tears, when she saw my truck.  The ins. guy is on his way right now to go have a look at my truck in the tow yard, I should know within a couple hours, of what they are going to or want to do.  If they give me what I paid for her and let me buy it back, I have a couple good 'ol boys that would like to buy it from me as is.  Hard decisions when you have no where to store it, and are not working, and have nothing to drive, and fuel is so High.  There is 40 gallons of premium gas in her belly, maybe I should buy my truck back and hold an auction for the gas that's in her belly?  Or sit on it, till it goes up to 15.00 a gallon.

$6000.00! C'mon man, gimme a break!  No parts available?  totaled for that price and reason.  Did not accept their offer.. will be sending pics, and receipts for purchase of truck to a middle person, trying to get more for it, and find out how much for buy back.  But, I have no place to store truck till I find parts, so I guess it will go to boneyard :'( :'( or auction resale.  I am so heartbroken and they are moving it further away from me to another yard that doesn't charge for storage for them, it will be 45 miles from me instead of 15 miles. :(. I told the adjuster about catalogs I have with all parts in it, he didn't appear to care.  So Long Ms. Blue, I'm sure gonna miss ya......... :'(

That's about what they gave me when I wrecked my wife's truck.  It was a 2000 GMC Sierra(about 100k miles).  We had 15k in receipts not including the price for the truck itself(12k).  We ended up just stripping off whatever we could - motor, exhaust, trans, cowl hood, stereo, and some small stuff.
