Just curious

I was wondering if any of you guys ever got anything from GM for the "exploding gas tanks" on these trucks. Back in 97 or 98 I got a letter from GM and it gave me 2 options. 1. I could take the letter and work my best deal at the dealer for a new truck and then use the letter for $500.00 off my best deal or 2. I could fill out the form and mail it in for a live check for $100.00. I sent it in and got the money. Did anybody else ever get something like this? I owned an 84 1/2ton 2wd at the time I received the letter.

I had six trucks on the road at that time. I got six letters but mine said a $1,000 off a new truck. I too sent mine in for the $100 check and got nothing. I called about a year later and was told that it was in the apeal courts so no checks would be issued until that was claered up. I still have the paper work.
I know a guy that used the $1,000 credit towards a new truck. They told him that they would come pick his 85 K 20 Silverado truck up because it was to dangerous to drive to them! They told him it would go to the salvage yard and dismanteled as they are dangerous and can't be resold. It sat in his yard for about four years. He called and asked them several times if he could sell it twice because I was bugging him to buy it. They finally picked it up after his laywer sent them a letter. About a month after they picked it up I saw it driving around, when I saw the guy getting out of it at Wall Mart I asked him were he got it he said a freind of his worked at the dealer, and told him about this clean Chevy truck plow and all that they were looking to wholsale out the back door. He went down looked it over bought it for $2,000 took it home did about $500 worth of brake work and put it on the road.

Yea I did…..well not me personally, but my dad did, he own the truck at that time, back before he gave the truck to me. Dad said the truck was worth more than what GM was offering for it. So we kept it, the truck had been in the family for so long that we considered the truck to be a part of the family.

That whole exploding gas tank thing was a crock of $&*% I threw that letter right in the trash.
Didn't GM sue NBC or whoever it was that made that fake video that showed a truck exploding being rammed?
Here it is...
NBC’s Discredited Testing Procedures
Compounding the situation is the NBC news program “Dateline” and GM’s suit
against the network for product defamation. GM sued because ignitors were used
during a staged side-impact crash featured on the program and because NBC failed
to inform its viewers of this. NBC’s almost instant capitulation to GM was

I agree it was a bunch of crap. But GM still had to settle until they were granted their apeal, thats why it all got put on hold. I have posted in here before I ruptured a fuel tank on a 78 K 20 over some rocks while 4 wheeling. Guess what no explosion. I was hit quite hard in the side ruptured the fuel tank in my 85 K20. Guess what no explosion. It was a bunch of crap just like the Pinto scare in the 70s. Media hype, just because a handfull of C K series trucks had fire as a result from a side impact they took it and ran with it.

I still have one of the letters at my house. I wanted the money but never sent it in..
The whole lawsuit was started over some teenage kid that some how was stuck on a train track and the train hit him. The autopsy showed that he dies when the train slammed into his head. Of course the train was blowing the horn and slamming on the brakes, well before it impacted and I am sure sparks from the train along with gas can cause flames, but how many of us park on a track?
I saw the pics of the truck in question. It impacted at the drivers door and the roof was about 1foot wide after the impact. The drivers door was almost adjacent to the passenger door.
