How wide do rims need to be for 44" tall tires?

Found the slotted mags I want for my 1975 Jimmy but down the road I'm going to lift the truck higher and put some 44" under it as it is my son and my toy.

Here's the Craigslist ad for the wheels and tires,
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/610169570.html

The owner says he thinks the rims are either 8 3/4" wide or 9 3/4" wide.

Is this wide enough for 44" tall tires?  I had 44" tall tires on my first monster truck on slotted mags but don't remember how wide they were?

Here's some pictures of them...

44"s probably wouldn't look so good on narrow wheels

I had 44"s on 15x10"s and they looked like they were gonna burst like a balloon.

So I need like 11" or 12" wide rims?

Dang, these wheels are in really nice shape.

They are nice wheels and I wouldn't ruin that nice blazer with big bowling balls. Those trucks are too rare now. I'd keep it at 35"s tops with those nice clean slots. How come you want 44" on it?

When I ran 44's I used the same wheels I'am running now 15"x14" Weld super singles. Bur I like the deep dish look. Just my opinion.

JR your truck looks nice and if I were going any bigger than 35"s I'd go wider like yours...what are you running now?

38.5x15.50 Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips I wanted to try the radial tires the 44's would feel like they would knock your eye teeth out for about the first 10-15 miles. These run so much better but I had to change my gear for the smaller tires I did have 5:38's with the 44's changed to 4:10 with these.

How come you want 44" on it?

Oh I don't know, I guess because just for fun?  I had 36" and 44" tires for my first Monster Truck and absolutely loved driving the truck around with the 44" tall tires.  It drove great, looked cool and was a lot of fun.  The goal is to do the same kind of thing, that is get a set of 36" tires for when I want the shorter tires, and a set of 44"s for when my son and I want to have fun.

what are you running now?

The Jimmy came with some 31" tires which are getting low on tread, so I'm going to need new tires soon.
