Help!! Wiring NIGHTMARE
« on: April 03, 2008, 10:30:19 pm »
I have an 83 M1008 and I was installing two auto meter gauges(boost and pyro) in place of the 4wd dummy light and the oil pressure light(?) I cut the gauge cups out in order to install the auto meter gauges. Well I knicked the plastic circut board , and now when I turn on my lights, one headlight is dimmer than the other, my fuel gauge losses power completely, the turn signals light in the cab come on(not outside), and my dash lights don't work!

Is there an easy way to fix this nightmare? Can I buy the plastic circut board and replace it, or will I need a whole new gauge cluster?

Um if there is a brake in the copper do i like i did...Take a Exacto knife...Strip back the top layer of plastic so only the coper shows...Take a solder gun and Tin the top of it with a drop of solder....Then touch it to the brake and its fixed..Take some liquid tape and put a drop on it and ur done...If its real bad take wire and bridge the gap

The printed circuits are available from   but you can pick up a used cluster for probably $25 bucks. Just a suggestion but when you want to do a mod like this you should make it so you can reverse it back if you ever wanted to and find a used one to hack up first in case you ruin it or screw up you still have the original.

Sounds like you have a couple problems,  Your fuel gauge and dash lights sound like your printed circuit issue but your headlight being dim is probably a bad ground connection at the headlamp area. It could be the connector or trace the black wire to where it bolts to the core support or fender and unbolt it, clean the terminal end and where it bolts with a wire brush then reconnect it and spray some grease on it. The turn signal sounds like GMs crappy front t/s and marker lamp socket. When the socket( ground again) goes bad the marker lights seek a ground through the turn signal indicator in the dash.  Replace the socket.
