700r torque converter

Is a converter from a 700r 4x4 the same as a 4x2   ?

Are you swappin from one to the other? You just have to make sure the spline count is the same -either 27 or 30 teeth. And the correct stall of course.

Yeah, a buddy of mine has a stock 87 2wd truck and might need a new converter.
He doesn't have a lot of money right now,so if the converter from my old blazer will work and get him by for a while i'm gonna give it to him.The local parts store told him it would,but I just wanted a second opinion from a few people here.
I trust the info from people here more than the yahoo's at the parts stores.

I'm not sure he if he does or not .
He was told this by someone else,I was just checking to see if mine would work or not.

It is "chugging" in gear at speed but not at idle,he took it to a friends shop and they put a scanner on it while driving,mechanic says the (TCC) tourqe converter clutch was causing the problem.They tried to sell him a new one,but I said he could have mine if it would work.Again he doesn't have a lot of money,so just lookin' to save him a few $$.
