Turn Signals...where do I start?
« on: April 08, 2008, 08:05:56 pm »
My turn signals were working fine since I bought my truck 6 months ago.  It's a 1980 Silverado.  Now, when I drive the truck, the right side turn signals and dash indicator (green arrow) are constantly lit (not blinking).  When I flip the blinker switch to turn right, they flash like normal, but once the switch springs back, the problems continues.  When I flip the switch to turn left, the both sides and indicators flash as if the hazards were engaged.  One other thing....VERY occasionaly, when I flip the switch to turn right, the horn beeps.  Any ideas where I should start....I'm not very knowledgable about electrical stuff.

Thanks,

T.J.

It might be the turn signal switch in your stearing column. Nearly the same thing happened with me.

Other than that it could be faulty wiring. I'd check your ground connections behind the tail light lense, and also your wires in the back. But I'm pretty sure it might be your switch in the column. Other than that, just check wiring and check your fuses as well.
My truck is my flying fortress, the road is my sky, and Toyota's are the enemy bunkers that need a busting.

Check the connection at the base of the steering column. It's a flat connector. Check your connections, there is a ground wire on the LH bedside behind the tail light assembly if it's a fleetside. The front ones are in the engine compartment.

Thanks for all the help.  I was finally able to determine that the hazard lights switch was bad.  I replaced it and now the turn signals work correctly.
