Two steps forward, Five backward
« on: April 14, 2008, 11:29:20 am »
After working on the truck this weekend, I've taken five steps backward >:(  ARGHHHHH

I noticed brake fluid on the floor below the proportioning valve.  I looked could not find any leaks.  I had my son step on the brake pedal and fluid came oozzzing from the black plug on the valve.  I installed an entire new brake system over nine months ago and had it blead before this arrived.  I called inlinetube where I bought the valve and they will stand behind the product - but I have to send it back so they can verify it has gone bad.  I am not mad at them - just mad in general because I have to redue this part of the brake system AGAIN.  So, when I remove the proportioning valve and ship it back, brake fluid will drip out and eventually empty the master cylinder.  Then when I get the new valve, I will have to remove the master cylinder to re bench bleed and reinstall it with the new prop. valve and rebleed the entire system.  I CANT SEEM TO WIN. :'( :'(

Another problem I found on Saturday.  My seatbelts.  My interior is finished, so I installed the bench seat.  Then I went to install the "new" seatbelts I bought off of ebay.  Black belts that were suppose to fit a 73-87 Chevy truck.  I never payed close attention to them until I had them installed and went to try them out.  The shoulder belt section would not latch into the middle lap belt section because the middle lap belt section was for a small latch and I had fat latches.   Now I have to replace my middle section with another middle section that will fit - back to searching and spending MORE money!!!!

Thanks for letting me rant

Jeff

Sorry Vile, but what are those pictured and are you serious about grinding the buckle?  If so, that might work ;D

Yeah, I've done it with a customer of mines car. Of course I didn't give him a recipt for it but he was so fat he busted the belt buckle. Cheapest way out was to grab one out of a clunker I had laying around. It latched.

Those are transmission line plugs ( or any line for that matter) http://www.amazon.com/Thexton-312-Plug-All-Vacuum-Stoppers/dp/B000P9CP3Q

I ground down buckles before on a race car window net.

Go to Autozone and get some brass fittings and close off the ends when you remove the valve.  This will keep the master from draining.

Thanks Guys ;D  I feel better now.

I couldn't find brass plugs that would fit so I clamped on a hose from one brake line to the next - no leaks.  I boxed up the prop valve and will mail back tomorrow.

I looked at the seatbelts and it looks as if the grinding of the fat latch will work.  I'll start with that tomorrow evening.

Thanks again guys  ;)
