cab rust

why i was working on my bed a seen a little rust at the top of the cab is this bad

all rust is bad. Use a wire wheel to strip it down. Once you clean if it's just surface treat it and I would smooth the seam right out of the picture.

Hotrod, Ditto on ALL rust is bad! The best thing for that area is to sandblast the seam. Then (assuming you don't have any holes show up) is to run masking tape (a couple layers) just where the rolled edge starts into the seam (covering the seam & the metal on the other side of the seam) & swipe body filler in the pits. Once your done with the one side of the seam, tape up the other side & do that side. When your done you will have the pits filled, but not the seam. If you don't understand my babbling, just say so. Spray with etching or epoxy primer then apply seam sealer. Lorne

ok cool what could i use insted of a sand blaster to get in the seam

Wire wheel brush on the end of a drill will work, but dont lewave the primer on long as primer is like a sponge it`ll absorb moistore and start rusting again..

hey can i use black or clear silicone adhesive sealant on my cab for the seam

Probabaly not cause when you come time to paint the cab in that groove it`ll fisheye like a dude since its silicone.

Best way to use this stuff is to tape off where you dont want it to go on, put it in the groove and wet your finger and rund it all the way across the groove and make sure there are no pin holes and you will be fine.

Hotrod, If you go to an autobody supply store, they will have what you need. You want a urethane seam sealer. You will put this on after the primer, but before the paint. DO NOT use silicone sealer, paint does not stick to it. Lorne

thanks haulin it today i was sanded on the cab and it is not that bad i just need to fill in the pits and primer and paint and some seam sealer

Some guys tape off the seam, then fill it with seam sealer, then remove the tape. I just fill the seam, then use lacquer thinner on a lint free rag to remove all but whats in the seam.
