can it be fixed???
« on: May 02, 2008, 04:55:28 am »
i have a late 70's 350 in my truck... i just got it running again so i went for a test drive to return some stuff at our local parts store, well when i went to leave the starter grinded for 5 sec. if that and wirled away as if it was not kicking out, (Brand new today) then all i heard was the sound of frustration -pinkity pling, the starter bolt just falls out and there is a chunk of my super fresh block where the bolt theads into sitting next to it... it split right down the hole next to the frame where there is only one hole... so a mini starter isn't going to help. any ideas can it be welded or even JB welded

I had a 3.8 Buick in my 81 Toyota do that same thing. I had to pull the engine, took it to a welding shop, and he pre heated it, welded it / built it up with nickle rod, then wrapped it in welding blankets to slow the cooling process. I redrilled, and tapped the hole. It never bothered again after that.

I'm really not sure, I haven't personally seen it being done.  I'd assume it could be done depending on who does it, but I'm not really sure.  Hopefully one of the more experienced members will chime in and give you a definate answer.
