glasspack

my brother has a 1994 Chevrolet W/T 1500. Hes got a hole in his muffler and was gonna replace it. We were wondering how a glaspack would sound in its place. Its a 4.3 V6. Its got a 2 1/2 inch tail pipe.

anybody got/heard one- hows it sound???

Well ill tell you what i think and know ...Its all i use it gives it a good melow sound to it ...when u first look at it u would think the flow thure would make it to loud...But it dont..iv used them on a V6 a V8 and it sounds good

yeah ive got them on mine-350  but i didnt kno how they would sound on a V6

I've got true duels off the factory headers on my Ford thats running a 300 straight six with glasspacks. Sounds like a big monster fart machine. I totaly hate it, but thats the previous owners doing. A good freind of mine in Tampa has an S-10 w/ a 4.3 and 5 speed that he had glassers on and it sounded the same, he traded them out for Warlocks and now it sounds 100% better. Go with Warlocks or Thrushes or Flowmasters, They are a little quieter but at least your truck won't sound like you've got an import beer can muffler.

That just looks like another glasspack. What I meant was a chambered or some people call them turbo mufflers. Glasspacks sound like junk on sixes.

I dont no about that i got a V6  and im using my glasspacks and i dont get what ur saying about the farting thing ..

Go to your local auto parts store (advance, autozone, pedboys, etc.) and ask them for the shortest ones they have. the 40" sounds like @#%$, the 28" sound just fine on anything from my sisters cj7 to my dads "BIG TEN". They are cheap, too. Around $20 a piece from the Advance here in Greenville, SC.

Glass Packs IMO sound like crap and kinda rob you of a little HP. I'd go Turbo mufflers if anything.....If you have a little more money, use the 3 Chamber Flow Masters.

A glasspack, also known as a cherry bomb, is a kind of automobile muffler in which the exhaust gas passes straight through the center of the muffler. Packed fiberglass surrounds the exhaust channel and absorbs some of the high-frequency sound.

All mufflers impede the flow of exhaust gas and create back pressure on the engine, which reduces power. Muffler designs involve tradeoffs between noise, back pressure, and cost. Replacing the factory muffler with one that creates less back pressure is a modification that is often made by hobbyists interested in increasing the engine power of their cars.

Glasspacks are an old, simple, and relatively inexpensive design. They are very effective at reducing back pressure, but not very effective at muffling noise. Thus, they not only make the engine more powerful, they make it sound more powerful.

Some modern muffler designs are similar in principle to the glasspack, but use more sophisticated sound-absorbing materials such as stainless steel mesh, and more advanced acoustical engineering, reducing noise while retaining the power-preserving advantages of a straight-through exhaust flow

well now , that was informative , it's all in what you like when i was 16 glasspacks were king ,know Flowmasters rule ,love that sound ,  , had a 292 w/ split manifold & short glasspacks ,loud, could'nt sneak in after hours dad could here me a mile away, sound like p...off bubble-bee, on a 4.3 don't like them but it's not mine , cheap , I have them on my 84 3/4 wood hauler , cause if I lose one no big deal , thats my 2-cents +....roll low ...drag hard

OK glass packs and trhush turbos , cherry bombs, etc all sound the same. They sound great at first and then in no time sound like fart cannons'. Just buy a good muffler. Summit is carrying an inexpensive muffler now that sounds good!

I have headers and 40" Thrush glass packs on my 55, it sounds sweet but to loud. I just bought a pair of Flow Master 40s for it.
