Capacity
« on: May 06, 2008, 10:22:29 am »
I'm specifically wondering what the cooling system capacity is for a 74 with a 350 and a stock radiator, but was also wondering if there was a page with fluid capacities for 73-87 trucks that I was missing?
If not, putting one together for the site wouldn't be a bad idea.
I.E
Oil capacity with and w/o filter
Cooling system
Trans fluid (by trans)
Diff Fluid
Blinker fluid  ;)

It's going to vary based on if it's a bone dry system, radiator size, etc. Lots of variables. If it's bone dry get 3 gallons and mix it 50/50

This is straight from the owner's manual for an 83, so it should get you in the ballpark:

Coolant:
17.5 quarts without A/c
18 with A/c

Oil:
For 5.7 engine:
5 quarts with filter
4 quarts without filter.

It didn't indicate anything for trans or rear diff.

Thank you for the replies.
As always I just put in what the system would hold...  ;)
Although having a sheet of tolerances, specifications, capacities etc... on the forum just seems like a good idea.
Now someone has to put said list together, and or find where it all is in one easy format and post it... so easier said than done, but just an idea.

Actually, there is, i think, a chevy site with all that kind of info, but i don't have time to look for it right now.

A service manual would maybe, probably be the best bet, but i don't have time to get one of those either.

In the meantime, try this site:
