I was amazed at the fact that science grade now a days does not reflect grammar. My exes daughter was real bad at spelling, and didn't care to improve it. I would see one of her science papers and it would have a 90, or 95% with horrible spelling.
When I asked the teacher she said " This is not English class! I am not grading the grammar! " Hello?

lol You should see some of the words my students try to spell! I do make spelling count though. Would you want an automotive techncian working on your car write on your repair order
"Replaced cadillac converter and replaced axel seel. Recomendf new thremostat" Professionalism!
You should see some of the applicants I get, their resumes go right in the trash can.

I am not the worlds best speller, but I try, & I re read my stuff to see if things don't look right before I go to spell check. The real stupid part is Craigslist has spell check! My exes daughter would type something on the computer, when she was done she would go to spell check, click on change, change, change, change, click, click, click, click, as fast as her finger could hit the mouse. Or Click on change all. Then it was done, it got printed, end of story.
This is starting to turn into a topic, so I am moving it to general

Use Firefox when you miss spell a word it puts a red line under it and if you right click on that word it gives you the correct spelling left click on it and it changes it

I'm a sophmore in high school, and I can't believe some of the things I see, I'm not trying to brag saying that I'm better than everyone else, but bad grammar really bothers me. I always check my papers/essays over at least once.
Vile is right, it's ridiculous how people spell these days. Especially when filling out a resume or application.

You know, the science class may not be English class, but, if you are in high school and you spell/use grammar no better than a 4th grader, something needs to be done.
We need to prepare students for college. We are doing no favors by letting it slide. When I was in college, if I didn't spell a word correctly, or use grammar incorrectly, it would be a sure turnoff on the professor's part. I had some professors embarass students in class (and rightly so) by turning the exam/paper back to the student and demand they write it correctly prior to him reading it.
The way kids text message others with all the shortcuts and stuff, it is a wonder they can write at all.
Students represent their high school when entering college. If that student has poor English/Spelling/Grammar, the college will not look to that school for any more recruits in the future.
The same goes for the graduates representing a college. If a corporation hires a grad and that grad has difficulty writing reports, then guess what? That corporation will be looking elsewhere to fill their vacancies.
We are doing no favors by letting those mistakes slide. The student will think thier grammar is just fine because no one corrected it.

I agree with the poor spelling in school, but I don't know how many of you have kids with cell phones but man my 15 year old was texting some of his friends and whew, I needed a translator it was crazy but the sad part was he understood what they were saying. I think thats a sign I'am getting old.

Hookd on foniks werkd fer mee
It amazes, concerns and saddens me where it would seem most of today's youth is headed with their grammar (and by association, their intelligence). But with the online world, they don't care and have no need to care since everybody they are communicating with are just as bad!
What really......really chaps my hide is when I have a day off and watch one of them cheezy court TV shows. There's whomever and whomever talking as bad as they can spell in front of a proper-speaking, non-regional accent, respectful judge. Spelling and grammar is one thing, but when you TALK like that.....that just ticks me off.
